Direct Energy Conversion Method (DECM)
The DECM is based around proprietary technology developed by Trident Energy and established technologies used within the offshore oil and gas industries. The system has six major components:
- Linear generators
Designed developed and patented by Trident Energy. The generators are highly efficient as they convert straight-line mechanical motion directly into electricity. - Power conditioning
Designed and developed by Trident Energy in partnership with Cambridge University. The variable form AC that the generators produce is tamed to DC then reconverted to grid compliant AC. - Floats
Placed in the sea to capture both the vertical and lateral movement of the waves. The floats rise and fall with the motion of the waves, driving the linear generators, resulting in the immediate generation of electricity. - Platform or rig
The sea structure used to support the floats and generators. The company has designed a rig based on proven methods developed and utilised within the off-shore oil and gas industries. - Mooring system
Designed to maximise energy conversion and ease of deployment. - Transmission cables
To connect the power station to shore and transmit sustainable electricity into the National Grid.
